AUGUSTA — The traffic pattern for southbound Interstate 95 motorists using exit 113 will revert back to its original configuration on Tuesday and end direct access to Old Belgrade Road.

For the next week, those motorists will be directed to Route 3.

Ted Talbot, public information officer for the state Department of Transportation, said travelers needing access to Old Belgrade Road also can use exit 112 and Route 27.

This temporary traffic pattern change at exit 113 will allow for the continued construction of the east and west roundabouts, as well as the southbound I-95 off-ramp.

Construction continues on the I-95 northbound off-ramp and on Old Belgrade Road.

“Drivers are advised to keep speeds low, stay attentive, follow the message boards and signs,” Talbot said Friday in an email.

The work is part of a $13 million improvement of the interchange. The project will link Route 3 directly with Civic Center Drive — passing the new regional hospital, the Alfond Center for Health, and the Alfond Center for Cancer Care on Old Belgrade Road.

The project involves creating two roundabouts and installing traffic signals at the hospital entrance and at the intersection of Route 3 and Civic Center Drive.
